‘I Should Have Gone To Bed Earlier’
- Laura Thompson | 18th November 2021 -
11pm, I should have gone to bed earlier … I am going to regret this!
But by the time I got downstairs after putting you both to bed and cleared the kitchen up and got the bags ready for tomorrow and fed myself, I just wanted to stop and switch off … and watch trash TV and scroll my phone mindlessly for far too long!
Managing Separation Anxiety and Sleep
- Laura Thompson | 8th November 2021 -
Separation anxiety, a parenting term you have probably become quite accustomed to hearing? One that is a thrown away in response to any challenges you may be having with your baby or toddler, because it’s normal and we’ve all been there! And it is normal and most parents probably have been there but that doesn’t make it any less emotionally and physically exhausting, right!?Separation anxiety, a parenting term you have probably become quite accustomed to hearing? Autumn Clock Change
Laura Thompson | 15th October 2021
Remember before you had children and the clocks going back in autumn meant an extra hour in bed!? Yeah … now we are parents sadly it’s not quite the same. Clocks go back an hour at the end of the month, if you’re lucky that means your 7am riser will wake up when the clock shows 6am on Sunday morning, we can deal with that! If you are not quite as lucky your 6am riser will wake when the clock says 5am and if you are really unlucky and already have an early riser your 5am wake will now read 4am … yuck!
Not to panic, I have some tips to help you get prepared!
Handling Bedtime Fears
- Laura Thompson | 17th September 2021 -
As your toddler gets older so too their imagination goes into over drive and a child that once went off to sleep happily after you say goodnight turn out the lights and close the door may all of a sudden be having difficulties.
From around age 3 onwards children develop a vivid imagination, this is healthy development and of course we want to encourage our child’s imagination and creativity to blossom.
The issue can be that at bedtime children’s imaginations run wild and can start to cause some anxieties around bedtime.
Let’s talk about some of the things you may be hearing from your child.
False Starts At Bedtime
-Laura Thompson | 8th September 2021 -
‘False starts’ is a term used to refer to when your child wakes soon after falling asleep at bedtime. Usually within 30-60 minutes of falling asleep, which is within the first sleep cycle of the night. It may be that your baby falls asleep in your arms and then wakes as soon as you put them down or it could be they sleep for a few minutes before waking and sometimes they can wake several times before finally falling asleep for their first long stretch of the night.

So let’s talk about why it happens and how we can resolve it!
How to have a Blissful Bedtime
- Laura Thompson | 14th May 2021 -
At the end of a long day of parenting, you still have one last job to do … get them to bed! Is this a smooth transition in your house? Maybe not, so often this time can be filled with big emotions, meltdowns, anxiety, fear, push back, protest and power struggles. Everyone is tired it can be overwhelming and exhausting! You may feel like you just have to ‘get through it’ but wouldn’t it be nice if bedtimes flowed smoothly and were full of fun, love and connection?
How to Extend Short Naps
- Laura Thompson | 7th May 2021 -
You get your little one down for a nap and the stop watch starts, are they waking after 30 minutes like clockwork? (Maybe 45 minutes if you’re lucky!) Short naps can be so frustrating because often we know that our children have not napped long enough, they’re still tired and are not getting the sleep they need. Cat napping can also lead to so much unpredictability and inconsistency when it comes to trying to carve out a schedule for our days. It’s a really common problem so let’s run through my checklist for turning those short naps into established, restorative ones!

You’re baby is no longer a baby they are a fully fledged toddler! It can be such a fun age, watching your tiny person develop their personality and explore the world as they become more independent! It can also mean a ‘regression’ sometime between 18 months and 2.5 years of age. Sleep is stills so important for this development. Laura Thompson | 4th February 2021
The first nap transition your baby will go through is the 3-2 transition. This means they will be dropping their last nap of the day which is often referred to as a cat nap or power nap because it’s usually shorter than the first two naps of the day at around 30 mins in duration.
