Why Would You Hire A Sleep Consultant?

- Laura Thompson | 18th February 2022 -

If you are struggling with your child’s sleep you may be wondering ‘Do I really need to hire a sleep consultant?’ and honestly the answer is no, of course you don’t have to! The truth is much of the information sleep consultants have is out there somewhere, if you look for it! There are many families who will see success from buying a book or reading information online, which is amazing and the reason I share so many tips on my social media and blogs! So, what’s the point in a sleep consultant? Well obviously I think they are great ;) Let’s talk through some reasons you may consider hiring a sleep consultant to help you overcome your little one’s sleep challenges.

You Feel Like You Have Tried Everything!

I hear this a lot. ‘We’ve tried everything!’ I felt like this too when I was in the depths of sleep deprivation with my eldest 5 years ago. There is just SO MUCH information out there and it is so hard to sift through it all to find what your child needs. Maybe you have tried a lot of different things but a sleep consultant will be like your sleep detective deciphering the route of the issue and presenting you with a clear plan, they will be able to keep you on track with this for long enough to actually see results.

You Feel Alone In This

Wow, is there anything lonelier than pacing the floor with your baby at 3am for the fourth time that night? No matter how many other Mum’s at playgroup also share their sleep woes, it just somehow doesn’t help because that’s their sleep woes – not yours! Maybe you have a partner who is supporting you with this too but guess what, they are also on their knees with exhaustion and you feel like you are both drowning together? A sleep consultant can be that person from the outside, who totally gets what you are going through but is far enough removed from the situation  to be pragmatic and see things you may not. A good sleep consultant will also take on your sleep woes as their own! I get so invested in every family’s progress and want to see them succeed. It’s like the perfect balance of having someone there to cheer you on and support you without them being so close they become emotive about the situation.

You Like To Have a Plan

I must be honest, I love a plan! There is something about having a plan that makes me feel in control, calms my anxieties and gives me confidence. If you are that same kind of person then I know you will get a feeling of a huge weight being lifted off your shoulders the minute you come off that consultation call and have your plan in hand. You know where your headed, things are going to be OK.

You Like To Have Flexibly

On the flip side, there are people who can feel super constrained by plans and strict schedules. The whole point of working with a sleep consultant is that they will guide you to adapt your plan as you move through the process. They will also help you navigate those bumps in the road as they happen, because as we know our children are not robots and you know … life happens!

The past couple of families I worked with actually had their child’s first birthday party planned right in the middle of our plan – over nap time! Did I tell them to cancel, rearrange?

NO! The balance is so important so I guided them through how they could adapt their schedule for the day and get back on track over the next couple of days.

So that’s what I think a sleep consultant can do for you … and what I aim to offer all my families!

Yes I refer to my clients as my families and I pour my absolute heart and soul into helping them get to where they want to be with their child’s sleep!
